Leitrim came onboard with the One Million Stars to End Violence project in May 2022. The partnership was formed with Mental Health Ireland, DVAS and Sligo Rape Crisis Centre.

Star Weaving workshops have been held across the county with several community groups including The Oasis Women’s Group at Breffni Family Resource Centre and WCI – North Leitrim Women’s Centre in Manorhamilton.

On November 25^th and event took place in Carrick on Shannon organised by DVAS and An Garda Siochana called ‘Walk for Unity’ to remember the women who have died at the hands of an intimate partner.

Breffni Family Resource Centre is the collection point for Oasis Women’s Group stars. The Children attending the preschool will soon be getting involved in the project, creating collages of stars made from the off cuts from all the stars being woven. They will be displayed along with the eight pointed stars.

Our Star Weaving Workshops are a space to learn how to weave the eight pointed stars, to have safe and supported conversation about domestic and gender based violence, to access support from DVAS & SRCC should you or someone you know need it, keep DGBV on the agenda so we can end violence in all its forms.

To reach the goal of 1 million stars in Ireland, Co. Leitrim aims contribute at least 32,000 stars. We will soon have displays of stars around the county showcasing the project and signposting people to DVAS & SRCC should they need the information.
