COUNTY LEITRIM

ONE MILLION STARS TO END VIOLENCE

Weaving Communities of Courage Against Violence

ONE MILLION STARS IRELAND
LEITRIM'S STAR WEAVING JOURNEY

Sligo came onboard with the One Million Stars to End Violence project in May 2022. The partnership was formed with Mental Health Ireland, DVAS and Sligo Rape Crisis Centre.

Star Weaving workshops have been held across the county with several community groups and at Sligo ATU. The engineering dept of the college are building a framework to create a display of stars at Sligo ATU. West Sligo Young at Heart Community Group in Dromore West are keenly weaving stars also.

A joint event marking International Women’s Day 2023 was held in The Clayton Hotel, organised by DVAS, Sligo Rape Crisis Centre, An Garda Siochana, Sligo FRC and Sligo Leader Partnership. 150 women attended and they all got an opportunity to learn how to weave an eight pointed star.

Sligo Family Resource Centre The Mall, Sligo Town are the collection point for anybody wishing to contribute the stars they have woven to the project.

Our Star Weaving Workshops are a space to learn how to weave the eight pointed stars, to have safe and supported conversation about domestic and gender based violence, to access support from DVAS & SRCC should you or someone you know need it, keep DGBV on the agenda so we can end violence in all it’s forms.

To reach the goal of 1 million stars in Ireland, Co. Sligo aims contribute at least 32,000 stars.

We will soon have displays of stars in Sligo ATU; DVAS and Sligo Rape Crisis Centre; The Garda Station; Dromore West Community Centre and more.
