This workshop is part of Amber’s One Million Stars Ireland
project in collaboration with Kilkenny Yulefest. Ambers One Million Stars
Ireland project is an award winning, inclusive community arts project
connecting communities across Ireland in solidarity against domestic, sexual
and gender-based violence (DSGBV). Each eight-point star represents light, hope
and solidarity against DSGBV, promoting our project’s eight points of healthy
love within relationships. Stars are curated into our travelling ’LOVE’ installation,
spreading love and hope for a future free from violence and abuse for all in
our community. The LOVE installation with be in situ at the Mayfair library
throughout Yulefest. There are now 430,000 stars across 26 counties and
Northern Ireland.
Siobhan McQuillan is Amber One Million Stars Ireland’s Project Lead. Siobhan is a registered art therapist with the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists . Siobhan is committed to connecting communities through the healing power of art and using Art as Activism to create social change. During the workshop you will be taken through the steps of weaving an eight pointed star in paper and ribbon. Enjoy the mindful benefits of star weaving this Christmas.

Origami Artist Rebecca Lyons is a visual artist based in Tralee, Co. Kerry. She received her BA in Fine Art from Crawford College of Art and Design in 2002. Rebecca completed a BTEC in Fine Art Management at Kensington and Chelsea College in 2004 and did an Introduction to Curating Course in Central Saint Martin’s in 2006. She returned to Ireland in 2013 and studied a NFQ in Digital Media in the IT Tralee in 2014; followed by a master’s in creative media in 2015.
Rebecca will be taking you through the steps of making a 3 D eight-pointed star tree decoration made from paper. Rebecca is the county co-ordinator of the One Million Stars Ireland project in Kerry.
